The coming attractions trailer was produced before much of the film was shot, so the make-up and the depth of characterization aren't there. (Today that would show "indie spirit.") They were after the bold strokes that would generate interest. I can't imagine anyone dissing this trailer if they've seen the picture. Come back and post when you've seen it. If "Mockingbird" bored you it's your own damn fault. I think you disliked the story itself but want to blame the movie.

Huh? I thought it was a good trailer until the bit on the phones came because some of the actors performed abysmally. That's because acting at the time was still diverging from stage acting, where emotions can't be displayed with subtlety because the audience won't see them, unlike in a movie where we have close shots. I disliked Mockingbird because it was boring, dull drivel. Static cinematography, template characters (Mr Good, Mr Bad), wooden acting. Modern courtroom films are much better.

What's important is not the grandiosity or the subtlety of the expression, what really matters is its truthfulness. In this case the performances come from a deep, grounded, truthful place.

I saw this film for the first time a couple weeks ago. I couldn't believe it. Everyone has told me that the movie was good for back when it came out but couldn't really hold its own these days. Bullshit. It was one of the best movies ever. I never felt bored throughout the entire film. If you're a true movie goer, don't listen to people who trash this movie. It truly is a classic.
