RonniWest, of course it's not their own number. Re-read my first entry. But what they've done with this song is their own work and it's very firmly their own number in that sense. It's not just a straight cover version like for example, the Jam doing Heatwave or Move On Up. Pop / rock music performers commonly dream of coming up with something that will be thought of as a classic, that won't be forgotten in say 10 years' time. I'd say the White Stripes have got their classic with this one.

I can really understand someone saying that. It's a love it or hate it thing with the voice effects. When I listen to this, I'm hearing a very desperate woman almost going out of her mind, screaming and pleading. It's like if she loses her man, she'll take her life because there's nothing more to live for. It's a piece of emotional art.

Oooh this is horrible. The White Stripes are a brilliant band but this version is just plain nasty! But hey thats just my opinion :-)

well your stupid! this one is much better. Jack white puts in the emotion to the song and thats what makes it so good!

Call me ignorant, I'd never heard of the White Stripes until tonight. Now I've listened to some of their other material and realised they're actually pretty big, I have to say that this song is miles better than anything else they've done. They've gone up a level with this.

I've just chanced on this song and what an amazing find! I knew I knew that song but I couldn't quite place it because this interpretation of it is completely unique. They've taken an ordinary Dolly Parton number and made it into something emotionally powerful. And that's a guy singing it? This is so refreshingly different I'll have to get the album it's on and buy about 10 copies to send to people. If you slag this song you are a numnuts and a donut.
