Snowline School District Meeting For Military Opt-Out Part 4
BackSnowline School District Discusses Opt Out Forms For Military Recruiting -- No Child Left Behind Act Discussed On October 9th 2007, the Snowline School District of Pinon Hills Phelan and Wrightwood held a meeting where the opt-out form for military recruiting was discussed. By law high schools are required to provide military recruiters with personal information about their students. The only way to prevent this disclosure is for parents or guardians to fill out and sign an opt-out form. There was some confusion regarding a conflict between the Opt-Out clause in the No Child Left Behind Act and the state education code of California. The Federal Law says students must be allowed to opt out of the military recruitment list. The state education code says that you can opt out of all disclosures, but not just one. School Superintendent Art Golden believes he can satisfy the parents by way of an all inclusive opt-out disclosure form with an amendment for opting into a disclosure for specific colleges and employers. The School Board discussed the confusion with local residents. See the videos below for all of the meeting.
