Palestine's haunting Nakba art installation - 15 May 08

Back

Over the past few days, there have been many protests and events to mark the Nakba. The memory of the flight of those Palestinian refugees has also been captured in a haunting art installation that will be displayed in Jerusalem. It has taken almost a year to put together and is the work of a Scottish artist and thousands of young Palestinians. It makes for one of the most evocative commemorations of this collective tragedy. Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland reports.

"Also the reference Palestine has been used since the time of Alexander!" Yes and it usually referred to people of Jewish or Hebrew ancestry after the romans broke the back of the Jewish resistance. It was only after 1948 that Arabs began to call themselves Palistinians. Before that Jews actually referred to themselves as Palistinians if they lived in that area. The others called themselves arabs.

Old man you should not write on things you dont know much about. I think you will find that Palestine was not used to refer to people of exclusive Jewish ancestry, do I need to remind you of Hellenic ties to the Assyrians in Palestine? You are also an idiot, the label of 'Palestinian' amongst the Arab community was established during the Ottoman era. Think before writing.

Iraq Oil to be Shipped to Israel Amiram Cohen, Haartez 4/14/2008 The US has asked Israel to check the possibility of pumping oil from Iraq TO the oil refineries in Haifa. The request came in a telegram last week from a senior Pentagon official to a top Ministry official. The pipeline would take oil from the Kirkuk area, & transport it via Mosul, then across Jordan to Israel. The telegram included a request for a cost est for repairing the Haifa pipeline that was in use prior to 1948

What of the Jews that fled persecution in Europe, Ethiopia, Yeman, Iraq, Iran, Germany, Poland, Turkey, Ukraine, and all over the world? Did they have no rights? To me it seems like a fair exchange as the numbers are fairly simular.

not all zionists are Jews. Hell you could be an alien and be zionist. When people say they are anti-zionist, they are usually referring to extreme zionism. In any case anti-zionism does not equate to anti-semitism. besides, doesn't semite mean all peoples of middle-eastern origin?

> not all zionists are Jews. Yes I know that, I've visited Palestine and Israel. Zionism was originally an *atheistic*, colonialist, expansionist movement ... racist to the core. And yes a good point re the definition of anti- semetism, pity too many rtards don't know this, brainwashed, bigoted, zionists.
