Impact Day Visual Effects Reel
BackThis is my first visual effects project and the tentative start into what I hope to be a career in visual effects. They are just some of the 68 shots I modelled, textured, animated, lit, rendered and composited for comedy spoof Impact Day. All effects were created in Maya, Photoshop and After Effects. Constructive comments are welcome.

That floating thing with the shadow on that mans chest impressed me:) How did you make such a smooth animation with the floating stuff?

Hey Man - I'm not Gage... But yeah, the terrain was done in Maya using a displacement map made from one of the 3D Texture nodes (Fractal I think). Cheers.

The compositing all looked great, but the shots of the shuttle exteriors didn't have very realistic lighting. If you see real footage of stuff in space, it is generally extremely contrasty, with dark shadows and blown out highlights. There just isn't much fill light up there (except for earth/moon-shine). Of course, most directors get scared away by extremely harsh lighting, and realistic space scenes, so you probably couldn't have done it too realistically anyway. :)

Very cool. Brilliant visual effects - I bet they took ages. Particularly like the explosions.
