Graffiti 'invasion' in Greece - 05 Oct 08
BackAthens, the Greek capital, is often seen as the cradle of western civilization, and some of its oldest monuments date back thousands of years. They have survived invasions and wars. But authorities there are now struggling to cope with a new kind of attack - graffiti. Barnaby Phillips reports.

yo yo yo yo, you know its not like that Hip Hop started in USA, but it is developed all over the world, you know, and greek hip hop has no similarity with the American one or the Japannese (or another hip hop). HIP HOP is not the same.
I am Greek, i live in Grece, i speak Greek, and i also watch what happens, USA was built on the ancient greek culture, so you cannot speak about civilization.
AND HIP HOP IS THE BEST PART OF USA'S CULTURE!

2) It is laughable to truly believe that graffiti in Athens Greece, "the cradle of western civilization", is even remotely a new issue. Clear evidence of graffiti has been unearthed amongst ancient civilizations, including, and primarily, Ancient Greece. The word graffiti was derived from a Latin word; Latin = used in ancient times.
Graffiti is simply returning full circle back to its roots, only modernized!

1) Unless the graffiti 'attacks' are being done on the walls of the "oldest monuments in the world", why even mention the monuments in the intro to this report? IRRELEVANT.

they are just stupid, not the greeks that do GRAFFITI, but the people saying that Athens is vandalized
Graffiti is the most beautiful thing all over the world, and they say that is a way of MARKING on the wall, its not that, its art, and for some people like me (i am a street bomber) its the way to feel that you really exist, that you do what you like and no-one can tell you anything (apart the police, that is F@%*ED be the government)
HIP HOP is the best thing ever happened to me!

jaze, I agree it can be very beautiful, depending on where it's sprayed. I think however, places like ancient ruins that have been there for thousands of years deserve the respect of everyone and are off limits. Peoples homes too. At around the stadiums in Athens and places like that it can look really cool though. Hip Hop is great (the true hip hop). If you can understand Greek, there is some really cool hip hop music (lyrical talented stuff) coming out of Greece that I have found as well.
