To the rest of you who responded to this negatively. Go to church and pray for forgiveness for your BIGOTRY! You can cheat on your wives, molest children, drug users, divorcees and those living in sin. But as I sit here I realize you use Gay marriage as your scape goat. Quit worrying about a topic that does not effect you because you fear that someone may know you dark secrets. Take a good look in the mirror PERFECT Christians that you think you are???? Try reading the NEW testament.

An ideal you've chosen to define in one particular slanted way. When you've understood that, do come back...

Oh dear. Someone appears to be throwing their toys out of the pram. What you say doesn't make sense: I explained why in my first post, and you've failed to address the argument that it contained. If you're too stupid to understand, that's your problem.
Come back when you've grown up - and have learned to turn off your caps lock.
Insult my education if you wish - I'm afraid it's nevertheless still a lot better than yours, as anyone with a brain can see.

take away democratic rights? my point is that i don't think marriage is a democratic right. and even if it was made a purely secular institution i would still be against it, at least in its current form. and no, i am most definitely not an absolutist, but you need to argue your case and not put words in my mouth if you want to convince me of anything. you imply that non-religion is faith too, and that just doesn't hold up. read the definition of faith and then the definition of atheism.

It doesn't matter if you agree with my equation. Marriage is a word that represents an IDEAL. Ideals don't necessarily translate into the real world all the time. However, marriage, by the definition, as we ALL know, happens all the time. While 50% of marriages fail, most of those failed marriages occur among a minority of the population who marry and divorce multiple times. I would agree that my traditional view is somewhat dogmatic. I value procreation. That's not scientific. It's good, though

No- I don't care what two people do who are totally unrelated to me....you're right....it doesn't matter to me. So then why MUST some gays throw it in my face? THAT'S when I get turned off. I don't care about what goes on in your bedroom just don't teach it to my kids before they're old enough to understand and don't introduce yourself and in the first 30 secs say "I'm gay". I COULD CARE LESS! I don't go around saying "I'm straight"...but...maybe I should!

But marriage is a religion based union. So if you have no religion, why ask for marriage?
EllaRoisin (Monday 17th of November 2008 05:46:25 AM)
I disagree with your equation that marriage=reproduction, mom & dad and biological parents staying together. By this rationale, a straight couple who cannot have children are not entitled to use the word 'marriage'.
Also, would you not see the 'traditional' view of marriage as equally dogmatic? If not more so, as it is concealed under the ideology of 'common sense'?
