Amazing and very cute! However it tends to lose its lustre when you consider: the use of key words to trigger a reaction learned by rote; and withholding food as a bribe. Birds are extremely intelligent though. Note the recent case of a Quaker Parakeet that warned the owner about her choking baby by getting all flustered and shouting "Baby! Baby!" Don't forget the Japanese crows that wait at traffic lights to drop nuts under the wheels of waiting cars. They collect the cracked nuts.

... and she did all that for the tempting morsel of food that was in the girl's hand for the whole act and she eventually gave to her at the end. Pavlov's dogs.

What?!? No, parrots don't just perform for food like some other animals. They do it because of their relationship with their trainer/owner and because they love to get a laugh from people. Believe me on that one, I have birds who won't talk or do anything unless everyone laughs and tells them how cute they are. Birds are SO much smarter than a lot of people give them credit for!

Well you do see her putting food in her hand at the beginning and then giving it at the end...but yes I think you are right. I was a bit harsh. We stay at a house sometimes where a parrot stays in the kitchen. She imitates the phone, the kettle and the glug-glug-glug sound when you pour a glass of wine :-)

This has got to be the most amazing parrot ever! I think that it's owned by a university somewhere, either in Texas or Arizona.

I think you're thinking of Alex the parrot who was at the University of Arizona. Poor guy, he passed away last year. My birds and I were very sad. :(

Oh yes! That's right, it was Alex! That was a neat bird too! Didn't it know some fifty-five words? Smart bird!
