Et mon francais est even worse: I'm from the U.S.! ; } But he's right on: Gould brings out in the music something pure, ideal, thrillingly clear. The beauty, the nature of freedom & goodness, becomes somehow apparent when Gould plays Bach. He is an artist for the ages. I imagine that when Gould passed away (too young, only 50), ol' Johann Sebastian was there to greet him, pulling out the piano bench, inviting him to sit down and play...

Dont think youre entirely right about GG. Bach wrote them down on paper but theres no mention of him being able to play them as well as Gould. If you just "press the right buttons" on a piano it can still come out terrible. We shall never know how well Bach played his music and if Gould was as good as him, but all we can say is Gould plays it better than anyone on record.
