How To Shave With A Single-Blade Razor
BackSee my blog at http://mantic59.blogspot.com . Information and instruction on how to shave with a single-bladed safety razor (like an old double-edge Gillette or single edge Schick Injector). This is a refresh/re-edit of a previous two-part video of mine.

mantic: It seems that no matter how diligent I am in regards to shaving with the direction of hair growth, I STILL manage to get a few very painful ingrown hairs that almost take on the appearance of pimples. What am I doing wrong?!?!?!
I typically use Noxzema (canned) foam. Will investing in a badger brush and a quality (PRICEY!) shave cream like Proraso help? I should note that I have a somewhat curly beard.

You might have a skin condition like me. You said you have somewhat of a curly beard. Well I have a thick beard and its similar to curly hair in the sense of toughness but not so much curly and since i started shaving I have these bumps and I went to the doctor and he said its a skin condition in 80% of Ethnic (black) males and 20% of White males.

Single Bladed razor blades help the condition in the sense of not making it worse because the single blades dont hack away at the hair because single bladed shaving is through reduction passes. Ive been shaving for about 5 years and about 2 of those with single bladed razors and the bumps are no longer in clusters razor a few here and there.

breif67- Yes, a brush and traditional lather soap or cream will almost certainly help. And it doesn't have to be expensive: Van Der Hagen shave soap is about $2, CO Bigelow (almost identical to Proraso) is $5 at Bath and Body Works, and Kiss My Face Moisture Shave is very inexpensive. Something else to try is to finish your shave with a hot water rinse (instead of cold) followed by soaking a cotton pad with witch hazel and gently wiping your face and neck.

So mantic? which do you prefer? single blade or multi?
mantic59 (Monday 20th of October 2008 06:21:52 AM)
achavez78- Definitely single blade, unless I'm in a big hurry in which case I'll sometimes use a Mach3 (because of the pivot, not because of the 3 blades...).

Shaving cream. It explains a lot. About McCain, Obama, Biden, Palin. Confused? Don't be. Go to "Presidential Shaving Cream" on YouTube.
