Michael Hurley - Sweedeedee

Back

Snock, Kornbread, Jocko, all aliases of this sly musical expeditionary. Bascom Lamar Lunsford, Charlie Poole, Hank Williams, Spike Jones, Slim Harpo, Groucho Marx, Captain Beefheart, there's a bit of all of these and a thousand other voices and styles. From his great 1971 LP "Armchair Boogie".

I've got a friend who lives in a dorm at NYU on broadway near washington square... this song makes me want to go visit her so badly.

Has Michael Hurley ever came to Australia, surely its about time he did??

No, I don't think he plays those songs too often anymore. But he did play "Oh My Stars" for me, which I requested. Got to talk to him too, and get some photos with him.

Wow! Which album is "Oh My Stars" on?
thecorduroysuit (Saturday 28th of June 2008 11:11:18 AM)
It was originally issued on his legendary album Snockgrass (1980), but has appeared on other albums such as Sweetkorn (2002).

I had that one on cassette many moons ago, but it got stolen along with my other cassettes. "Snockgrass" has "I'm Getting Readty to Go" doesn't it?
thecorduroysuit (Sunday 29th of June 2008 08:55:11 AM)
It sure is. It's a brilliant album all around.
