The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy

Back

In the recent study "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy", the authors of the paper, Professor Stephen Walt of Harvard University and John Mearsheimer of the University of Chicago, charge that the United States has willingly set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of Israel. In addition the study accuses the pro-Israeli lobby, particularly AIPAC of manipulating the U.S. media, policing academia and silencing critics of Israel by labeling them as anti-Semitic. A new article in the New York Review of Books examines the controversial report and the reaction to it. It's called "The Storm Over the Israel Lobby." It was written by media critic Michael Massing, who joins Amy Goodman for the interview. Michael is a contributing editor of the Columbia Journalism Review and frequently writes for the New York Review of Books. "Youssef Ibrahim writes: "That there is a lobby in America concerned with the well-being of Israel is a silly question." Of course it is. When there is a big fat host for a parasite to engorge itself on, it does so with the utmost of enthusiasm.

Youssef Ibrahim writes: "That there is a lobby in America concerned with the well-being of Israel is a silly question. It is insane to ask whether the 6 million American Jews should be concerned about the 6 million Israeli Jews, particularly in view of the massacre of another 6 million Jews in the Holocaust. It's elementary, my dear Watson: Any people who do not care for their own are not worthy of concern. Its what all ethnic lobbies - Greek, Armenian etc-do in this democracy.[8]

It's refreshing to see someone talking against Israel. Dare they speak the Truth? It is very clear to me that Israel is INFLICTING "holacaust" type crimes against the Palestinians. The ball has always been in Israel's court. Stop building settlements in land that isn't yours. Let the Palestinans have there own land. That simple. There all animals, so after you leave the land, don't give them econmonic support anymore. Stop being hypocrites. Stop playing the anti-semetic card!its PATHETIC!

irish IRA The political violence that broke out in Ireland between 1916 and 1923 had its origins in Irish nationalist demands for Home Rule within the UK and British Empire and unionist resistance to these demands. see they have demands of home rule their demand wasnt wipe london off the map

First off, Its Irsh, not IRISH. And the fact you stamp me with that means what? Are you relating the Palestinians to the IRA? Well, the whole, "wiping" off the map thing is a little over the top. Western media shows the crazies, as in all countries. Maybe israel shouldn't demolish others homes. Maybe the chosen ones shouldn't commit,"holacaust" type crimes against the Palestinans. Do not say they don't. There is alot of video evidence. Sure there is...cont

cont. Sure there is alot of extremists in Palestine, but why is this? Do they have any hope? Human nature is force, not olive branches. I do not believe in a ZOG government. The UN isn't this vast anti-semitism conspiracy. People know how the jews are. It's plain and simple. Call it racist or what you like, but there are facts, my friends. People can change, but the jews are not really liked anywhere they go. And don't give me this escape-goat BS.

baker, scowcroft are big time oil people. All part of the war in 91. This time they were against it. Who was for it?
etsneroj (Sunday 2nd of November 2008 11:09:37 AM)
Probably for the same reason I was against it. Because it was a bad idea! Because the risk of making our position in the region worse, instead of better, was so great that they thought an invastion would be a strategic blunder. They were right. Cheney, Wolfowitz & Co. were wrong. I cannot imagine electing anyone who still thinks the invasion was a good idea.
