Inside Iraq - Lessons of War - 03 Oct 08 - Part 1
BackInside Iraq asks what lessons the world has learnt more than five years into the American military misadventure in Iraq. It is often said that history repeats itself. The Vietnam war in the 1960s, which dragged on for 14 years, is an almost direct parallel to the invasion of Iraq. The route to Baghdad, however, was far more complicated. The war split the western super powers and the UN. George Bush, the US president, and Tony Blair, the former British prime minister, were convinced that the UN's blessing was not necessary to invade Iraq, prompting Kofi Annan, the then secretary-general, to label it an illegal war. Critics charged that the biggest lesson of the war was the deception over Saddam's supposed weapons of mass destruction. Our guest this week is Lord David Owen, a former British foreign minister.

U know Khalid, In US in my country, we have white trash/hicks that still beleive that Saddam was behind 911. I guess with the same token v have your kind in M.E who after knowing the truth just doesnot want to beleive it. Did Saddam not commit massacares against Shias and Sunnis? Did he not invade Iran and then Kuwait? Did he not build gold palaces for himself while the rest of the Iraq was under sanctions, starving, running out of medicines? The Sunni govts around him helped in those sanctions.

Then this fool keeps talking about faulty intelligence in the hope he doesn't get called a warcriminal. He should be tried together with that Nazi Blair and hung for their crimes against humanity.
Sadam was put in power to sell cheap oil and when he stopped doing that he became a problem and was removed. Whom are you going to impose on the Iraqi people this time you Nazi warcriminals? You should all burn for what you have done.

It is funny how this Lord Owen Fool talks about the horrors of the aftermath of the invasion and the brutality of Sadam. Nice of him to forget the crimes of the British when they occupied Iraq twice. Then he talks about the illigal no-fly zones and how Sadam was prevented from oppressing the Kurds when the Turks were invading Northern Iraq on a regular basis and wiping out entire villages.
