BackBhutan, the world's newest democracy, is hoping to boost its economic prospects by harnessing its major natural resource - water. i would say because there's no democracy and of course the buddhism culture.
not that i'm against democracy, i just don't think human beings are ready for it yet, in the sense that i don't think at this very moment a democratic decision would be the right decision.

To some extend i don't democracy is necessary better. bhutan might well turn out to be another america (in term of culture). for example, monarchy can make laws like 60% of the land must be forest, i don't believe a democratic elected government would pass the same law, because the citizens in any normal developing country concern about getting rich more than protecting the environment.

That's not true, here in Europe we recovered from a period of intense pollution from industrial wastes in the 1980s, and the forests are looking greener and more healthy than in a long time. The filters and cleaners installed in many factories have helped, but overall it matters little if 3rd world countries like China keep skipping environmental concerns. And for now that's their problem, not ours.

i do not agree with u. about environment rebuilding it after u destoried it is not going to be as good. and a lot of europe's rubbish just got shipped to other countries anyway. and i don't even believe what u said, what u said sounds like the environment in europe is actually better than before, yes maybe better than the worst time in the 1980, but its still not good enough to be sustainable. and bhutan goes down the same path then they won't have a sustainable lifestyle too.

Haha, you have no idea what you're talking about. Our wilderness is sustainable, it's not the fault of European countries that other regions of the world can't manage the same.
thankqwerty (Tuesday 1st of April 2008 07:18:01 AM)
It's not the wilderness that's sustainable, it's the lifestyle. european's lifestyle require 3 times the resources they have in their country on average. where for americans it's like 8-9 times. it's from a BBC report.
The eurpoeans have started polluting the world since the industial revolution so yea they should take part of the blame.
