Super Delegates are great - they make rigging the system easy, yet the voters "feel" good.

Look at any betting website and you will see that the spread for "Hillary as Democratic nominee" vs. "Hillary as presidential election winner" is almost a 1 to 1 ratio. Obama's spread for the same is 2 to 1. This means that the average betting person has an understanding that if Hillary were the nominee, she'd almost certainly 100% become president.. but if Obama were the nominee, he then has only a 50% chance against McCain. I'd be amazed if the DNC doesn't realize this by now or by convention.

The problem with that is that sometimes the masses elect the wrong person, like W. In the 70's (I can't recall the name) the Dems had this guy who the masses thought god almighty, and lost the presidency by a landslide. Therefore, superdelegates were created so that never again would happen. So, if the masses make a mistake, the superdelegates could corect it. You are on the money about the church staying out of politics.
