When he is not making fun of different accents, he is speaking in his normal Canadian accent. Obviously he learned his accent from living in Canada from white people. His accent emulates the accent he grew up around. He is a great comedian and everyone knows someone that has the bobble head going on. lol

I'm a Canadian who's lived and worked in the US and I can tell you that even with good, news anchor's accents, there are subtle differences between them. We tend to clip our words ever so slightly and shorten vowel sounds. American is what I describe as "wider". There is a more open, broad sound with the vowels being lengthened and flattened (a milder version of your mid-west sounds. I hope this helps a little.

Are you serious? I spent a lot of time is South West Ontario, and this is precisely how they speak. Not in the bigger cities, but everywhere else. Accents are wonderful things. They make us unique and give us a different view of the world. That's why Peters appeals to so many different ethnic groups. Ultimately, he shows a lot of affection for all people even as he shows us our own foibles.
