You're basically right. Hippie came from hipster, which were the beatnicks in the 1950's. As the scene evolved and the social revolution grew, Hippies resulted. A hippie, truly, is one who is hardcore into the subculture lifestyle.
I'm right with you, I'm 30, a Deadhead (got to see 'em twice), and really love the whole 'spirit' of it all. Some may call me a hippe, but certainly I'm not.
Any one want to add and bring even more clarity?

I was at this show, it was the best Franklins Tower I ever saw them play, and one of the best shows I'd ever seen. I Fist saw the Dead at the Fillmore East in 1968.

Jerry didn't mess up, the dead often played different tunes or said different lyrics for example in scarlet begonias he often sang "when the dealer got rough" or "from the other direction I was calling her eye" the dead just did whatever they want while playing, the written words/music was basically a guideline

This one has a fast tempo that Jerry looks like he's enjoying!

most people would say the 1977 spring shows were their favorite Franklin's Tower, but I know how it is when you got the tape!!!
no one can ever agree, especially when people were in attendance, then it realllly is their favorite ever. Rock on!
