actually tbcass is right...and if you don't agree, you are not up there yet to understand..you still have to learn...
and for people having to "master"heavy metal..they will never get there, they're finished...degenerated...but no growth expected there...

Thank you for such an intelligent response. :-)

Another factor is syncopation. Jazz and funk require syncopation in the playing which is rhythmically more advanced than Rock. A syncopated line at 100 bpm is more difficult to master than a 200 bpm non syncopated line.

shine on the creek is one of his slower songs. and yeah, i realize its not that hard to play mindlessly fast. another thing is i think most rock/metal bass sucks. i hate when its just one note or something that follows the drums. if metal bassists weren't so lazy, it would be a much harder genre to "master"

Check out all of Jaco's videos including those with Weather Report. Start out with (Jaco Pastorius Bireli Lagrene "Teen Town") and work from there.

I'm not a bassist but it would seem to that the Rust In Peace basslines are more than just "one note something's that just follow the drums" Atleast before the songs begin. try and searh "Five Magics Soundcheck" for some intresting Trash Metal basswork =) (Not recommended for people who don't like metal.)

corrections to my previous message: This was for "Personman48" and the artist of the song is "Megadeth"
Please don't tell me how much it sucks or anything because im not saying its good basswork, but its some of the better METAL basswork.

yeah i just mean the bulk of it sucks, its getting better. i mean like motley crue shit.

Motley Crue is some of the music i'd have to get paid to go to a concert with. along with most Crap-Rap. I like Rap, good rap, not crap rap like soulja boi or 45 cents. but this is not about my taste of music :P You are quite right personman48: Most metal has a very unintresting bassline. one of the reasons why i myself prefer Funk music.
