Jesus Christ Superstar (1973) Overture (1)

Back

Edited for YouTube: By request. The 1973 version of the Overture (complete) JCS 73 was filmed primarily in Avdat city. Avdat or Ovdat (Hebrew: עבדת‎), is the remains of a Nabatean road station, and is located on a mountain in the center of the Negev Desert on the road from Petra and Eilat. If you have Google Earth, you can clearly see this filming location. Very cool. Start at the Gaza strip and fly down to the center of Israel and zoom to about 2000 feet. I have it marked. ~Ric~ Click below to read the history of the primary film location for JCS in Avdat city Israel. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avdat Click below for a modern day photo of Avdat City - Note the familiar columns http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/fb/Avdat.jpg

Which songs are in Overture?
PuppyZwolle (Sunday 5th of October 2008 01:53:43 AM)
All of them. No kidding. Some just a few notes but they are in there. Even the lashes.

The soundtrack is spectacular. Peace to Carl (Judas)

Does anyone know what the hebrew and arabic words are on the sides of the bus? What does the headsign say in the front?

I purchased and watched both versions this past weekend. All I can say is, WOW. The first one is better, of course, but the second one is fantastic as well. Jerome Pradon is sensational, but Ted IS JCS. Ric, thanks so much for all that you have done to expose us to these fabulous productions. Eternally grateful, Eve

the guy playing judas OWNS this movie!!

Judas OWNS the story. This is musical is about the way Judas (could have) viewed the events. He IS the main character. Note how there is no miracle in the movie.... Jezus does not rise from the dead... it ends with Judas' death. It ends with his question: "Jezus, WTF were you doing here?"

I never thought about it that way. got me thinking about how judas may have seen jesus becoming sensational and inspiring people to do things good and terrible. after reading your comment and actually listening to the lyrics in the first song i think you might be right.

Listen to the gliss the lead guitar player plays towards the end of the overture, just as Jesus (Ted Neeley) rises from the crowd.....f***ing awesome!!!
