I can't help but think that they got the concept of these bugs from the Tyranids of Warhammer 40,000 video game series.

Oh no... Starship Troopers is based on the novel "Starship Troopers" by Heinlein published in 1959, so this one is older than Games-Workshops, which has been around sice 1975, and the Tyranids are even younger since 40K came up later than the first GW games. Btw Warhammer 40000 was a tabletop strategy game longe before there were any computer games of such kind.

hmm. that's very interesting. has to be coincidence, then. Also, I am aware about the tabletop game...but just got done watching Dawn of War II gameplay footage, seeing those life-like moving creatures just brought back this movie to me, so I was kind of focused on that when I made the message. Still very interesting about the novel, though.
