17th Annual Dinner of Chabad of Port Washington

"Good evening ladies and gentlemen, welcome aboard Flight Number 18, please fasten your seat belts and get ready for...." these were the words that opened its annual Dinner celebration, marking 17 years of commitment to the community of Port Washington headed by Chabad shliach Rabbi Sholom and Sarah Esther Paltiel. The dinner was held at the new, state of the art Hangar of Talon Air. Rabbi Paltiel was vividly moved by the large turn out of guests who came to honor Chabad of Port Washington. In the past 17 years thanks to Rabbi Paltiel, children are being educated in lively Jewish environments at Chabad's early childhood center, Day School, summer day camp and youth programs. Adults are attending Chabads classes, lectures, luncheons and personalized study sessions. Families are discovering a new Jewish dimension to their lives through our synagogue and outreach programs. In recent years two more couples have moved to Port Washington to assist Rabbi Paltiel: Rabbi Noson Glugaver and Rabbi Ilan Weinberg. In his address that was preceded by the blowing of the Shofar, Rabbi Paltiel announced plans for a new building and was met with an enthusiastic applause. Rabbi Paltiel mentioned the popular saying that behind every man there is a woman and he contributed his success to his wife who with her help he manages to raise his nine children (the last one was born two weeks ago) whom he calls a "baseball team." Rabbi Paltiel concluded his address" I can promise you one thing, a contribution to Chabad is your best investment." Also addressing the audience were Brat Brodetsky, President of the Chabad House Committee, Dr. Geoffrey Gordon, Superintendent of Port Washington Schools, Jim and Sandra Newwirth, Parents of the Year, John Kayman, City Inspector of North Hempstead and Senator Craig Johnson.
