Alesis Micron Sound Design

Back

This is aprogram I created. It uses frequency modulation to create unique textures and the timbre is affected by the use of the pitch wheel.

I look at alot of online vids to check out how actual synths sound in the hands of real users...... most of which sound dire because no1 seems to know how to program a synth anymore (a side effect of machines shipping with 1000s of presets nowadays) anyways, this sounded fantastic so kudos! soy

how did you get that phrase to play just by turning the pitch wheel? that's not a pre-recorded phrase, right? did you assign the fm amount control to the pitch wheel? or did you somehow assign the phrase too? also, when you create your programs, you start from scratch, not a preset you think would be even better tweaked, right? this is the video that made me get a micron a year ago..i probably should've started out with a synth with a more friendly interface, haha.

Hi, you cant assign parameters to the pitch wheel. It is not a phrase either. That plucking is generated by the change of dynamic in the Frequency modulation. Its hard to explain unless you understand frequency modulation. Osc 1 Freq is being modulated the waveform of osc 2 which is being modulated by Osc1. The algorithm used is cyclical. the pitch wheel is set up only to effect osc 2 and since the pitch changes osc 2 which is part of the FM algorithm its completley changes the dynamicofthesound

thanks, does this have midi and/or usb plugin + can it be used with a talkbox
explodyhead (Thursday 13th of November 2008 11:11:58 AM)
yes, it has both midi input and output, as well as usb. As for the talkbox, basically, if it has an audio output, it can be used w/ a talkbox

yeah micron all the way. the icrokorg has some really nice lead sounds but really no cool backing effects. and the keys are annoyingly small. the vocodor does work better but most people barely use it any way so yeah micron. -peace
