Of course the knock down is better, but doesn't .45ACP have inferior penetration to the 9mm?

7.62 is a good, powerful round, but it SUCKS in an assault rifle.
Kalashkinov himself switched all AKs made after 1970 to the 5.54 round in imitation of the NATO 5.56
7.62 only works in squad marksman applications like the m14.

It was 1974, not 1870

1970, sorry

Mikhail Kalashnikov hated the idea of putting smaller rounds in his rifle. But it wasn't up to him. that was the decision of the Kremlin. Now it's a 5.45mm.

since the chambering device and gas tube are so close to your shoulder, I would think that the recoil of the system would be much harder seeing as its much closer to your shoulder. However, Like I said before, im not sure how it would work im just going off an idea. I do agree though that it would be interesting if someone tried it. I know the Chinese make a bullpup AK called the 97 Series but its 5.56 not a 7.62

That makes sense. Man the Chinese had a cool concept too bad their quality is crap! lolololololol!

Korobov TKB-022. A bulpup 7.62X39. It's too bad it was never fully produced. I guess it was TOO ahead for it's time =/

That thing is ugly as sin. But, I stand corrected because it seems someone has tried despite it never being fully produced.

I thought it was cool looking... *twiddles fingers* I'm sure it's more than possible to make a bullpup 7.62X39, it's just a little out-dated, especially with the popularity of the 5 millimeters and NATO. I think it'd be hard to make the 7.62 NATO bullpup, due to it being bulky and having pretty high recoil (in comparison). I can't see a good assault rifle either, maybe a good sniper rifle.
