When the Levee Breaks

Back

I found hundreds of pictures online that I streamed in sequence to Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks". The song is extraordinarily appropriate to the catastrophe that was and continues to be New Orleans.

LA 2005 demographics: white: 2,795,263; black: 1,425,685; Indian: 24,921; Asian: 58,392; some other race alone: 37,078; two or more races: 48,061; Hispanic: 123,066. Before Katrina, New Orleans suffered another of the 5 deadliest hurricanes in US history - it was in 1915, was a category 4 and only killed 275 people. In Katrina 1,800 people lost their lives (49% black) and the aftermath was plain embarrassing - Go BUSH =(. Not to mention a major devastation to our economy!!

Go to fox news channel and they are showing the levees and the water is going over the top of them. They are hoping that they don't break.

It doesn't take 500,000 - 1,000,000 people to operate a port. New Orleans could function easily as a port with the 10,000 residents that remained in the path of Gustav.

This will happen over and over again. It is life living on the gulf coast. Katrina was a grazing shot that brought the levees down. Now with any sign of a depression nearing the gulf and development of a hurricane a billion dollar evacuation will take place. New Orleans should be a port town and resettled as nothing more with the exception of the negiborhoods on the ridge along the river oincluding the Quarter. To try to take NO back to pre-Katrina population is a bad idea per Gustav.
