Yes, you are right Andybaby! That's the beauty of this cartoon. One idea does not negate the other. Darkvengance, I am just a middle school English teacher. I was trying to teach theme and symbolism to my seventh grade class through a Faulkner story. They didn't get the concept of theme and symbolism until I showed them this cartoon, and then, by George, I think they got it! I just hope they don't talk about me till I'm gone!!

Personally, I'm wary of such 'post modernist' pretensions. If everyone comes up with an 'array' of ideas, doesn't that demonstrate that the 'symbolism' doesn't 'point' to anything other that that people just have imaginations, and we all just daydream, and fantasize subjectively.

I think the fnniest parts are, the walk of the men when there sneakily running away with the boxes and then the talent agents face, wen the man is holding up the frog... oh and wen the frog first bursts out into song lol should of won an oscar

I use this cartoon to demonstrate the concept of theme and symbolism. I have them brainstorm what the frog symbolizes. They come up with an array of ideas including the impossible and elusive dream and immortality as seen by the fact that the frog never grows old and dies. The symbolism points to the theme of the unattainable dream which remains timeless despite the ravages of time. The students really get it.
