These are the philosophical minds and aspirations in thought that my generation doesn't seem to put much stock into. It's a disgrace that we are simply degenerating into antipathy, losing any impetus, or desire for anything and everything that Star Trek teaches us all to strive for... I hope it all comes full-circle and I'm just witness to an intermittent umbral shadow upon society rather than a sign of worse things to come.

I miss this series. It was an "institution" in my family. I remember we onced raced down a mountain road in our van from an all day hike so we wouldn't miss an episode. Data is my favorite android character. He has some of the characteristics of my Autistic son.

*thinks* yeah, but Spock never fully got rid of his emotion if you ask me...he at times shows pride, and his time with Kirk at times seemed to teach him the value of the human side..
Data wanted to have emotions for the pleasure of it all- the emotion itself was the focus..but Spock while he may have found some emotions silly and "illogical" knew also that some of the passions of humans (like friendship) were valuable and powerful- and that these emotional humans were great.

I agree that Data did sometimes treat gaining emotions as the end in itself, but he did also have his own way of valuing his friendships. If anything, it's ironic that it was his purely mechanical side that came up with a way to express that he loved and missed people. He often told Picard something along the lines of "my programming senses when you are not there." And that didn't come from an emotion chip, it came from Data himself.
Hope I don't sound rude. I enjoyed your comment.

no not at all- I like converation like this..I'm thinker when it comes right down too it...
I'm a sci-fi guy at the end of the day, but I keep coming back to star trek because it asks the big questions...the futuristic science fiction world is merely a backdrop to discuss philosophy, anthropology, theology, pychology, and any other "-ology" you can think of..

It is Romulan attire. He had to pass for a Romulan at another point in the episode.
