Mario Del Monaco - Nessun dorma...

Mario Del Monaco is one of three or four of my favourite tenors. His "Dio, mi potevi scagliar" or "Forse la soglia attinse", or "Amor ti vieta", or e.g. "L´anima ho stanca" are unrivalled. Only Domingo (mainly as Radames or Cavaradossi) or Corelli (as Chenier or Manrico) there is possible to compare with his vocal beauty... sometimes, namely in Amor ti vieta ("vieta") or Forse la soglia ("palpito", "sotto") or Lamento (phrase "il dolce sembiante" - vocal "A") are his vocals incomparable beautifull...

ROLL that r, baby! Phenomenal... what a find. A little blip in the transition thru passaggio, but.... wow. There is just nothing lacking. Dayummm.

Pavarotti es el primero en darle gran enfasis a la última parte; así que no me sorprende que Del Monaco lo haya cantado sin alargarlo. Pero creo que a lo largo de toda la canción, Del Monaco mantiene una mayor potencia y la interperta (en lineas generales), mejor que Pavarotti. Del Monaco sin duda es uno de los más grandes.

Grande Mario ! Even if the final high B is not really exciting...it is quite short. Comparisons are not always easy and fair, but Corelli in this role was absolutely outstanding.

mario lanza did not have the proper training. He was great but not in opera. He can't hold a candle to MDM. Well not many can. Love Mario Lanza, he lived near me in Philly, so I'm proud and I liked him and his Settlement school training but he didn't go far enough. He didn't have the musical discipline for opera. I loved his singing on another level and it's really other than great opera singing. Great for movie musicals, in fact the best!

Mario Lanza had a wonderful voice, but he wasn't a singer without a micro, belive me, Del Monaco was 100 times better.
