Final Fantasy XII Henne Mines Abysteel Trap without Sleepga

Back

The ideal place to do this is at Pithead Junction C. Escape is easy, when you get the hang of it risk is low, and you're looking at 90k or more experience for your characters per room clear. There are several ways of doing this, but the most efficient (in my opinion from what I've seen) makes use of items that put one character's Evade to 100+. This makes him/her immune to melee attacks. I used these items: Euclid's Sextant - Hunt reward from "A Wild Stench." Ensanguined Shield - Multiple places, but I got mine from the chest in Henne Mines. See Sephirosuy's map about where (you need to copy/paste the link since GameFaqs will eat the hyperlink): http://db.gamefaqs.com/console/ps2/file/final_fantasy_xii_henne_secret.png While it's true that shield has negative effects, negating the melee power of 10+ bats is worth it. With those two items, or others raising evade to 100, you are totally immune to melee based attacks. Now, there are several ways of doing this. First of all, the tank, with the 100 evade, must have decoy. I advise setting gambits to buff up before hitting the switch, and dispelling to force a rebuff before going. It is devastating to have Lure fade early in the fight, but if it does or if the tank dies just escape through one of the zone lines to recover (if you aren't strong enough to pick things up mid fight). Even though you are immune to melee which includes Gnaw, one of the three abilities the bats use, unfortunately Self-Sacrifice and Leech are NOT blocked. Due to this, Sleepga may be needed. There are many videos showing the use of Sleepga here. Here are the gambits I used, WITHOUT sleepga, allowing nearly 100k experience points in less than three minutes: Tank: Foe: lowest HP - Curaja Self: Protectga (It may help with self-sacrifice, but I'm not sure. If Decoy fades it will help the others.) Self: Shellga (It may help with Leech, but I'm not sure if it helps at all.) Buff Person: Ally: any - Arise Ally HP less than 30% - Curaja (for emergencies) Ally: Tank - Bubble Ally: Tank - Decoy Foe:lowest HP - Curaja Self - Bubble (Bubble is good for emergencies, but NOT good to cast mid fight here aside from the tank.) Healer Person: Ally:any - Arise Ally: HP less than 50% - Curaja (NOTE: you may want that percentage higher. This is what I used at the end when I got the hang of it and my characters were stonger.) Ally: Tank - Hastega Foe: lowest HP - Curaja Self - Bubble You have to time the first wave right. I used this once I got the hang of it, since each cycle only lasts 2-3 min, that's like nearly 100k experience every 2-4 minutes! When you click the switch, the first wave of bats appear, but NOT all simultaneously. They appear two by two or something, but in general the first wave starts with four bats, followed by four or more in addition to that shortly after. Some of your characters may cast curaja TOO QUICKLY only hitting the first four bats! Have the game on wait mode, and after about 1/4 of the fastest curaja caster is done, make that person target a new bat to restart the cast. This will ensure that all of your characters hit almost every single first wave bat. If timed right and if you do enough damage, they will kill eight or more bats on the first turn, with the tank blocking almost all the bats' damage! The first wave is the worst, so they will make short work of the rest of the bats that spawn, if all goes well. Note: Each Curaja cast did 9999 damage for me! You may want to pre-buff with faith before you start if you do not. About damage to the tank: It's critical that the bats die fast because too many self-sacrifices combined with Leech will flatten the tank before it's possible to heal him/her. Sometimes this will happen no matter what if you aren't using the Sleepga method. The timing needs to be right such that your characters kill 8+ bats before many of them get a chance to take their turn. If you're not strong enough to kill them quickly enough, there are two variations of the sleepga strat I used before abandoning sleepga altogether. There are tons of videos showing how the Sleepga thing works. I tended to use a foe:HP = 100% gambit for Sleepga on one character though, to reduce the amount of time spent casting it. Note, if things go south you may either want to leave the room to recover or just spam sleepga with your living characters before recovering. It's up to you, but since it's not a far run I prefer running. If you run, only the bats currently up stay. So, after you kill them the next time you hit the switch the trap spawns pick up from where they left off when you left the room. I'm certainly not the first to think this strat up, but as far as I can tell it's the fastest possible, and I didn't see videos showing the evade thing. :)

Also, what about an "Ally: HP < 10-20% - X-Potion" Gambit in case of emergencies, to quickly heal the tank when he gets pummeled with leech?
