ive been playing drums for about 8 or 9 years. ive watched this video countless times and for the life of me cannot see the point. im not trying to insult max roach at all, but good god, am i the only one that sees this solo as sloppy at best? i mean i know its sort of meant to be "artistic" and "different" but in my humble opinion you can get to ridiculous with it. This solo needs at least SOME solid time structure behind it.

Honostly, I hate Max's solos. they are wierd, and pointless. but he is a very good band member, he plays along well with a band. just not so great with solos.

I tend to agree, except I quite enjoy his very short solos (or long fills, if you prefer). I was never a fan of his footwork, but had great technique with his hands.

ya jnow what? im flat out shocked -
buti feel the same.
are we like missing something
agered with your other choices - i mean just check out buddyrich or elvin in some of the related videos and...damn
i know its all opinion but like...is this is a metronomiclly tight meter? is the 'third eye' thing meant to mean free form and tempo-less? is it somehow classier that his feet as at such a sharp heelup position that he must have been crampin up his calves?
i want to know waht the fuss is about

And yet there are drummers just as qualified as you(a bit conservative there...probably a lot more qualified than you) I've talked to that disagree completely. You don't like Max Roach, cool, but you don't win cool points for insulting a legend - you just draw attention to your own relative lack of accomplishment. Thanks.

In watching a lot of the drumming videos and reading the comments it's pretty obvious the age of some of the posters. Everyone has their favorites but there's just no question about the contributions of Max Roach and others of that ilk. What they are doing may not look like much but it's because when they did it , they were the first, now others copy. This man was innovative beyond innovation, there should be no argument about that.

"...because it's a fact"
proof me it's a fact. if you can't, then it's your opinion...just like mine is, more or less, also opinion about he lacks technique.
and try to reply without name calling, i'm not interested of discussions with infantiles, thx.

lol yeah bud, you're pulling the famous "proove me wrong" card and you're calling me childish. Prove it's not a fact. Not easy hey? Especially since all i have to do is pull up countless vids of him playing along with music instead of soloing so that someone as simple-minded as you can actually pick out the rythme and understand what he's doing. HE IS GOOD. anyone can see that, because cause the average person, hell even someone who's great at drums, will not be able to do what he does.

would have been nice to continue discussion at adult manner, not with 28yo child...

see if you had anything legitimate to come back with you would have said it instead of calling me a child again. be a man, admit that you're wrong
