Thank you for this awesome video. I have seen him in Walkure twice (his 1st and 2nd performance as Wotan) Faust, Susannah, Tosca (2x) Dutchman, Don Carlo and Man of La Mancha highlights. I'm lucky that he's a fellow Baltimorean, and has always been kind to come back home frequently and perform. Even listening on today's Met radio broadcast was a thrill. Thanks again!

I don't mean to rag on n e body here... especially James Morris, but you have to hear Boris Christoff do this aria... absolutely thrilling. Plus Christoff really has the basso gravitas! This is not taking n e thing away from Mr Morris, to be singing this great aria so well @ 24... AND still singing strong nearly forty yrs later!!

Given that rich, beautiful sound, it's not surprising that the Met engaged Morris back then, despite his youth -- I think he debuted in '71, didn't he?

Actually, it was about three weeks after his 24th birthday... incredible sound for such a young man!

Hey thanks for the update on his age, I heard him for the first time at the met in the early 70's, real intimadating for another young bass/baritone,,, and him moving into Wagner was absolutely brilliant!
