Well... yeah, Freddie was born in Zanzibar,(his parents where Persian, though). He went to a Britsih school in India at the age of 8 to study, came back to Africa when he was 16, and migrated permanently to England at 18. And yes, de ascending "I want, I waaant I waaaaaant..." sounds definitely African to me also. I love it! :-)

I think that what a lot of people (including myself) miss about this song is that you could easily see this as an "American" song (yeah yeah, I know the members of Queen are British), the rhythm is very African. Particularly the ascending of the scale at around 4:00 "I want, I waaaant, I waaaaaaant..."
