in most first person games it doesnt look like you are looking out of their head, more like their stomach... probobly cuz thats where the gun is in first person shooters?

Except for the fact that when they shoot a gun, they raise the gun to their face so they can actually aim (e.g. Call of Duty, Half Life 2, etc).

I'm surprised this was missed, but anyhow, here's an ADDITIONAL TIP: you can get your camera to stay closer to your avatar by turning the scroll wheel forward (while back=farther). Even as you walk/fly, it will stay that distance from you, so you can give the camera less chance of swinging into a different room than you're in. If you click it 9× forward, it automatically switches into mouselook, and if you scroll backward in mouselook, it resets the view. Esc also resets to the default distance.
