Let me start off by saying that I am black and I completely agree with Elizabath on this rare occasion. It's so hypocritical for blacks to go around using the n-word but yet are ready to fight when a person from another race uses it. We will use the excuse "It is a term of endearment." No it is not. People DIED so white people won't call us that anymore, but now we use it to describe ourselves. It is a horrible word with so much history behind it. No one should use it.

why use it at all? I'm sorry but in my opinion allowing one group of people to use a word and not another because of their skin color is inherently racist in itself. I think if it's going to be used, everyone should be able to use it, else the word shouldn't be used by anyone. Isn't discrimination something that we're trying to get away from?

I understand what whoopi is saying... As a black woman I don't have a problem with a white person using this word as a term of endearment not as a insult.
