I adore Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue," and it fits these urban images perfectly! This is a fantastic opening scene!

Good for you. I'll check out the scene and watch for you. This movie saved my ass back in 1978. I saw it 16 times in the theatre in Tulsa Oklahoma when I was 16. It gave me a view of a world I didn't know existed and wanted to live in. Now I do. How fun to have been in it!

Thanks for the backup, but the true story is that I just happened to be walking by while they were filming and did not even realize which movie it was until I saw it in theater almost a year later. The reason it is cool for me is because I love that film so much and I can see msyelf for about two seconds every time I watch it, although it was more obvious on the big screen than at home. And, yes, I do occasionally go W00t! like a 13-year old.. :P

And mostly a famous painting by Edward Hopper!

I've never seen Edward Hopper's painting of the Empire Diner. John Baeder's painting of the Empire Diner was used for the cover of the Tom Waits album, "Asylum Years".

one of the best openings in the history of cinema
