One of the great 70's pop songs. Does this count as progressive rock/prog rock?

even within "gangsta" rap there is good and bad stuff

Mmm - kinda torn between between the sentiment of that kind of music, whist I have recently seen NWA Straight Outta Compton, which I really enjoyed, I kind of feel guilty about music glorifying violence like that. But then is NWA classed as Gangsta, or is it just old skool hip hop?. Also what are we doing discussing Gangsta rap on a Nick Lowe thread?? Weird. Over to you my friend - convince me

yeah nwa is maybe THE example of good rap that's considered "gangsta." in terms of violence, i think they're sort of a comic exaggeration playing on white fears. the music's so well-produced and the lyrics so catchy and playful, albeit violent, that its tough to believe they are the cold-blooded thugs they portray. i think some rap could appeal to nick lowe fans because of the emphasis on clever lyrics. eric b. and rakim, for example are definitely worth checking out if you haven't heard them...

I have "Paid in Full". I like a lot of old skool rap, ie Beasties as well, I like Rap with humour. Take Care

Wu-Tang has some "gangsta" elements (though they're really their own thing more than anything else) and they're awesome. Nick Lowe is as well
